Areas of Specialization: Anxiety, Depression, and Anger Management
For over eleven years I have helped teenagers, young adults, and adults overcome anxiety, depression, and anger problems. My goal as a therapist is to help you with the concerns you are facing, and assist you with strengthening your coping skills. For those who want to do more in-depth work, I focus therapy on working with you to achieve greater self-awareness and an increased sense of well-being. I am trained in a variety of approaches including: cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, solution focused, and systems theory. I work with each of my clients to select the approach that best meets their needs.
Anger Management
While anger is a normal reaction and feeling, many people express their anger in destructive ways. This can be particularly true for males. My goal is to help adolescents and adults better understand the sources of their anger, learn to better manage and express their emotions, and work through the feelings (often feelings of loss or hurt) that underlie their anger.
Negotiating Life Transitions
I find it very rewarding to work with people who are going through transitions and changes in their lives. I believe that such transitions, while stressful, offer an opportunity to grow: make positive changes, strengthen self-confidence and increase understanding of yourself. I focus therapy on helping your achieve these goals while successfully negotiating the challenging circumstances you are facing.
Help for Families and Couples
In my work with families and couples I have found that feelings of resentment, disappointment, and anger, interfere with communication and intimacy. My approach focuses on helping families and couples recognize and change unproductive patterns of communication. I use a combination of couples, family, parental, and individual sessions. This allows me to better understand everyone’s concerns and help each individual clarify his/her goals and identify what changes s/he needs to make in order to achieve these goals. I strive to help each couple/family I work with leave therapy with new problem solving skills, a better understanding of themselves (especially how they communicate in relationships), and a commitment to continue to work to strengthen their relationship.
