My Approach
I am dedicated to providing thoughtful, compassionate, and individualized psychotherapy to help you bring about personal growth and change. I provide a warm, caring, safe, and trusting environment. I understand that what may work in helping one person meet their goals may not work for another. Therefore, I use a flexible, individualized, and integrative approach to help you achieve a greater sense of well being by gaining understanding and greater mastery over the factors that underlie your difficulties. I also work with you to build on your existing strengths and develop new skills to resolve your concerns.
Working with Children and Adolescents
Behavioral or emotional issues in childhood or adolescence can be stressful and overwhelming for the entire family. When a child is acting out, or when an adolescent is refusing to follow rules or behave in responsible ways, family life can be significantly disrupted. I will work collaboratively with you and your child to solve problems and improve communication and relationships. I use play therapy with younger children and individual sessions with adolescents to help children and adolescents work through their feelings, find more effective ways to express their concerns and cope with the challenges they are experiencing. In my work with children and adolescents I am always sure to involve parents in the process, using either family or parenting sessions, or a combination of the two. I see parents as allies in the treatment process and work with you to help you better understand your child/teen’s needs and concerns, and find more effective ways to respond to these concerns.
Working with Adults
Adults see me for a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, life transitions, stress, women’s issues, or simply feeling out of sorts without being able to put a finger on it. In my work with women I focus on the specific concerns that brought them to therapy, but also help women examine how broader social pressures and forces are affecting their lives. My approach with adults is respectful, supportive and collaborative. I encourage my clients to look more closely at their lives and choices, in order to help change unhealthy and unproductive ways of looking at themselves and their relationships.
