My Approach to Therapy:
I maintain a strong belief that therapy is a collaborative process. Whether you are struggling with everyday stress or more significant psychological symptoms, we will address these issues and work together to find meaningful solutions. Generally, I utilize a Cognitive-Behavioral approach to assist my clients. However, as we all have different needs, I will draw on other therapeutic approaches and techniques, so I can best assist you. My goals are to provide a safe environment where you can explore your issues and concerns, work to solve problems, and become a more fulfilled and empowered individual.
Parenting and Family Concerns:
I work with families to improve communication. My goal is to help you and your family strengthen the ways you support one another and solve problems. My focus with children and adolescents is on enhancing self-esteem and strengthening coping skills. I work to help children and adolescents stop negative behaviors and replace them with more positive coping strategies and behaviors. Finally, I have particular expertise and interest in working with issues and concerns related to adoption.
Grief & Loss:
Loss is something that we all experience. I believe that there is no “one way” to address grief and loss. We will come up with a process that fits your belief system and helps you make peace with your loss. I will help you develop techniques that you will be able to carry with you so that you can continue to heal while working to move forward with your life.
Multicultural, LGBT and Identity Issues:
I recognize the numerous difficulties and obstacles faced by individuals that are not of the dominant culture. I understand the unique stressors of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual & transgendered community. This also includes the difficulties one faces when questioning their identity. Whatever the race, gender, religion or identity that you claim as your own, we will create a safe and open environment where you can be yourself, and explore your questions and concerns. Together we will identify the unique stressors that you face and work to assist you in developing techniques and strategies that will allow you to maintain your identity in a culture that may or may not be your own.
