Working with Children and Adolescents
I work with children and adolescents with a wide range of problems, ranging from negative and disruptive behavior, to emotional problems (including depression and anxiety) to difficulties coping with changes in their lives (parental divorce and remarriage; peer and social problems). When working with children and adolescents my focus is on helping them better understand their feelings and find more effective ways to cope with the challenges they face. I often use play therapy to help younger children address feelings and concerns that may have difficulty putting into words. I involve parents in the therapy and strive to take into account the developmental stage and needs of the children, teens and families that I work with. Finally, I have training in infant mental health and am able to help parents support the social and emotional development of infants and very young children.
Working with Adults
There are many life stresses or changes that may lead you to seek therapy, including professional/career issues, relationship concerns, grief or loss, or any significant change in your life (such as divorce or remarriage). I work with adults to help them identify, express, and process their feelings, and find new ways to cope with the challenges they are facing.
My Approach to Therapy
I believe that providing my clients with a safe, supportive environment to express their thoughts and feelings is crucial. With adults, my primary approach is psychodynamic psychotherapy, with an emphasis on facilitating self-exploration and self-reflection. It is my belief, that a trusting relationship with a therapist can help people resolve problems and live healthier lives.
